A new chapter unfolds…

Finally, the long wait was over and I joined Aztecsoft yesterday. And thus began the era of monetary independence in my life or so I think. I reached the office around 0900 hrs. Felt kinda weird that some parents had accompanied their kids to office. The ball started rolling @ 1000 hrs. We were asked to introduce ourselves. And after that suddenly, the day became really, really boring. We were asked to fulfil formalities. And that meant filling out lots of forms and after that keying in personal info. into the company’s database. As we were doing this, some guys from UTI Bank came and helped us in opening an account with them. They handed us our cheque book and debit card. The cheque book made me feel rich though my bank balance is 0.00. :-) By the time, all this was completed, it was lunch time.

The afternoon session was even more dull as there was nothing much to do. A lawyer had come to peruse our service agreements. So, the time was utilized in chatting. Guys narrated tales about how they were looted by Bangalore’s autowallahs. But this one really stood out: This friend, new to Bangalore, wanted to go to KPN office from No. 1 Air Travels (both in Madiwala) which is just 10 ft. down the road. He enquired around and somebody misguided him that it was far away. So, he decided to take an auto. The driver demanded 40 bucks. He resisted and finally agreed to pay him 30. Never minding that it was a one-way, the auto driver simply took a U-turn and dropped him promptly at the destination 10 ft. away. My friend, really angry, retaliated but the autowallah wouldn’t relent. He being very meek, paid the guy 30 bucks. A costly ride, man!

The rest of the day was spent in bringing some cheer into others’ bored lives in that conference room by spreading this story around. The guy was really blushing. There were some disturbing announcements in the afternoon that we may be relocated to Hyderabad or Pune and that we’d have to come to office on certain Sundays for training. The day was made more tiring by the uncomfortable chairs in the room. In the end, they distributed our access cards and we dispersed. Waiting for the induction on Monday…
